This project consists of the renovation of an approximately 18,000 SF former North Carolina National Guard armory to provide new program and activity spaces for the Boys & Girls Club of the Tar River Region. The renovated facility will include a gymnasium, virtual reality room, music studio, gaming room, classrooms, multipurpose spaces, conference room, 40-person dining and workforce readiness room, administrative offices, restrooms, and a central check-in area. Multipurpose spaces will include a Chill Zone, Makerspace and tinkering lab, and computer lab.
Site improvements will include a baseball field, enhanced security and aesthetics, a shop and farmers’ market, greenhouse, new entrance, and bus loop. Additional facility improvements will include upgrades to the commercial kitchen, roofing, rooftop terrace, entrances, and other exterior features.
The project is currently under design as a design-build project with Barnhill Contracting Company.
