Roanoke Electric Cooperative’s new headquarters facility includes a 19,700 SF office area, 19,000 SF warehouse, 1,400 SF wash pit, and 3,800 SF shop. Centrally located within the cooperative’s service area, the facility was designed to support efficient operations and Roanoke Electric’s commitment to serving its members.
The design creates a distinctive, forward-looking identity for the cooperative. A prominent barrel-vaulted roof supported by an exposed steel structure defines the main entrance and draws inspiration from the structural language of electric substations. Daylighting strategies were incorporated throughout the building to reduce energy use while bringing natural light into the workplace.
The facility achieved LEED® certification, reflecting the project’s emphasis on sustainable and energy-efficient design.
Construction Cost: $6.5 million
Completed in January 2010.
