Red Oak Elementary School Replacement

Nash County Public Schools selected Oakley Collier Architects to design a new 101,247 GSF replacement school for Red Oak Elementary. The project will be constructed in phases and will retain and renovate the existing gymnasium. The new school is designed for a core capacity of 900 students. Following completion of the new facility, the existing main classroom and cafeteria buildings will be demolished. The school is organized into two primary areas: an instructional zone and a core services zone. The instructional zone groups grade-level classrooms around a central circulation core containing student restrooms and resource rooms. A tall central atrium with high windows brings natural daylight into the interior of the building, creating a bright and welcoming environment for students and teachers.

The core services zone includes administration, the media center, makerspaces, and cafeteria, all centrally located near the main entrance. A secure, monitored entrance directs visitors to the reception area for check-in before entering the school.

A dedicated mechanical mezzanine provides secure access for service personnel to maintain the school’s mechanical systems without disrupting instructional areas. The separately constructed and isolated mezzanine is located above the corridor system, with breakout areas provided for larger equipment.
