The Harrison Family YMCA includes a community room, gymnasium designed for basketball and gymnastics, elevated running track, swimming pool with eight 25-yard competitive lanes and a separate instructional pool, rock-climbing wall, racquetball courts, wellness area, and classrooms. The facility also features a full childcare center, teen center, and administrative suite.
Sustainable design strategies incorporated throughout the facility include low-VOC finishes, high-performance coatings, and extensive daylighting. Although LEED certification was not pursued, the building was designed to meet standards consistent with a LEED Silver rating.
The facility is adjacent to the City of Rocky Mount’s athletic complex, which includes ballfields and a concession facility with a team meeting room, restrooms, and large covered porches.
